We've been making wine since 2000. At first, we started with Wild Muscadine grapes that were growing on our property and in the surrounding areas. As our bunch grape vines matured, we slowly phased out the wild grapes, and started making Blanc du Bois, and Conquistador.  We also added some other reds - Favorite and Black Spanish, and another white - Lake Emerald. In addition to the bunch grapes, we made two Muscadine varieties - Carlos and Noble. 

The 2011 Florida State Fair Results are in.  We received a Double Gold (Cynthiana), Gold (White Noble), two Silvers (Noble and Black Spanish), and a Bronze (Conquistador).  Unfortunately, none of our whites received metals this year.  I think I figured out why - no real proof, though.  We used Vinter's Harvest CL23 on all those wines.  It was the same yeast we used on our White Noble last year (also no metal).  Strange, because we used Vinter's Harvest SN9 on last year's Port (Bronze metal), and Vinter's Harvest MA33 on the Cynthiana, Conquistador, and Black Spanish (Double Gold, Silver, and Bronze).

Our whole idea behind winemaking has been to supplement our retirement.  We have been growing grapes and making wine for about 10 years now, and make a half-way decent bottle of wine - good enough to win awards.  With all this practice behind us, we will be retiring at the end of 2011.  It has been a fun journey, and a real learning experience.  When we started, we knew nothing about grapes, or wine.  Now, we feel we can make a living on it.  Wish us luck in the future!
